The Western Australian Centre for Health and Ageing (WACHA) and the WA Division of ANZSGM invites you to attend a symposium on "Playing the longevity game: the evidence behind increasing lifespan and healthspan".
Professor Rudi Westendorp, is a world renowned clinical epidemiologist, geriatrician, and gerontologist at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Professor Westendorp has been invited to speak at the upcoming ANZSGM Annual Scientific Meeting that will be held in Melbourne. We are delighted that Professor Westendorp has taken the time to visit Perth prior to the meeting to share his thoughts, findings and the latest evidence behind increased lifespan and healthspan.
After completing his residency training and earning a PhD, Professor Westendorp become interested in clinical epidemiology, studying patient populations to identify underlying risk factors for disease. He now supervises the longrunning Leiden 85-plus study, which tracks cognitive decline, heart disease, and other illnesses in very old people. To round out his knowledge, Westendorp spent 1998 studying the biology of aging at the University of Manchester, UK. His quest to test the evolutionary theory of the trade off between fertility and longevity has led him into the genealogical archives of British aristocrats and to Ghana.
Professor Westendorp's presentation will be followed by an opportunity for you to meet Professor Rudi Westendorp over refreshments.
The Seminar will be held on:
