Dr Andrew Ford is an Older Adult Consultant Psychiatrist at Royal Perth Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Western Australia. Dr Ford completed his medical degree in 1996 and his Fellowship in psychiatry with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in early 2008. He also completed a certificate in Old Age Psychiatry with the College. His project was on the topic of homocysteine and depression for which he was awarded the 2007 Advanced Trainee Project prize. The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in August of 2008.

Andrew joined the Western Australian Centre for Health and Aging in March 2009 from the Inner City Older Adult Mental Health Service where he was the head of service and consultant psychiatrist. He is current enrolled as a PhD candidate and will investigate the role of homocysteine in cognition of older adults. He is also involved in the B-VITAge project which is a randomized placebo-controlled trial comparing homocysteine-lowering vitamins to placebo in the treatment of depression in older adults.

Andrew is a young researcher with a keen interest in the mental health of older Australians. His special interests include dementia, mood disorders and late-onset psychotic disorders.
