Christopher Beer is the Senior lecturer in Geriatric Medicine at UWA and is a Geriatrician and Clinical Pharmacologist at Royal Perth, Swan Districts and Mercy Hospitals. In addition to clinical work in Geriatric Medicine and the Royal Perth Stroke Service he is a member of the Western Australian Drug Evaluation Panel, WA Medication Safety Group and the RACP Specialist Advisory Committee in Geriatric Medicine.
Dr Beer is an emerging researcher with interests in ageing and aged care, medical education and pharmaco-geriatrics. Since returning to Western Australia in 2004 Christopher has established collaborative studies in pharmacologic treatment of acute stroke at Royal Perth and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals, as a PhD scholar within the Centre for Training in Clinical Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Research (an NHMRC Centre of Clinical Research Excellence). In addition Christopher is collaborating in studies of deprescribing and is a co-investigator in the Heart-Mind Study.
Dr Beer will lead the Centre's newly funded DIRECT study, which will develop educational interventions aiming to determine whether education delivered to care staff and general practitioners improves the Quality of Life of people with dementia living in residential care.
